Vera Brittain (1893-1970)
Vera Brittain was an English nurse, writer, feminist, and pacifist. She is most known for her best selling book “Testament of Youth”. Testament of Youth was a memoir about Brittains experiences of World War 1, including the traumatic memories of nursing and loosing her fiancé, brother, and close friends due to the war.
Gavrilo Princip (1894- 1918)
Gavrilo was a Bosnian man, originating from Obljaj. He was a member of the secret Black Hand society, a nationalist movement favoring a union between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia. He is best known for the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg, in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914.
Mata Hari (1876 – 1917)
Mata Hari was born August 7, 1876 in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. Her birth name was Margaretha Geerruida Zelle but she changed it to Mata Hari, meaning “the eye of the day” in Java, once she became a successful exotic dancer in Paris. She is most known for being arrested and executed by firing squad for supposedly being an espionage or a German spy.
Paul Von Hindenburg (1847 – 1934)
Paul von Hindenburg was a German military officer, statesman, and politician. He is best known for leading the German army to success at the battle of Tannenburg. He soon became the Chief of the General Staff after this victory and later on also served as the second President of Germany. He is said to be one of the most influential political figures in the government.
